My First Posting

Well Hello Competitors and On-Lookers,

I am starting this blog to add some additional information and perspective to "The Great Tomato Race" that is currently in progress.  As you have read on Mike's blog regarding the race, both Mike and Sherrie have challenged me to a tomato competition.  Foolish children!!  But, since a significant amount of my favorite beverage (Beer) goes to the winner, I decided that it will all be worthwhile.  Oh, and yes, bragging rights for an entire Year!  What could be more fun?

But first I want to thank Mike for his idea about using a blog to record this epic event for all to witness. It is the perfect way to document this challenge.  So, thanks Mike, great idea and now you have set yourself up for public humiliation in your coming defeat.

I would also like to preface this blogging effort to the On-Lookers and let y'all know that part of this competition includes some really "gloves-off" bad-mouthing.  This was agreed to in the rules for the competition.  So as you hear each of us say unkind things about each other, it is all in fun to add some spirit and emotion to this five-month endeavor.

Speaking of rules, the winner of this race will be the one to be the first to produce a red-ripe tomato that is free of blemishes and other tomato maladies.  The tomato must be a minimum of 9" in circumference and grown from same lot of seeds.  The variety of tomato is Celebrity.  Each of us have (30) seeds to work with and they all came from the same pack.  Sherrie was allowed to start on February 9, 2013 because of her pleading that she is much further north in latitude so she should get an advantage.  Anyway, Mike and I could not take all the tears and begging so we gave in.  Mike and I were then allowed to start on February 16, 2013. A full week after Sherrie.  (A side note, at 12:01 AM on 2/16/13 I was not able to sleep so I began my tomato planting process taking full advantage of all of those early morning hours.)  The winner will receive a (12) pack of the beer of their choice from each of the other two competitors.

As part of my first blog, I want to publicly announce my predictions to this event's outcome.  First of all, and without hesitation I will win "The Great Tomato Race."  And to go further out on the limb, I will win on June 12th where I will present to the world my Winning Tomato.  It will measure 9 1/4" in circumference.  And even though the taste of this tomato will be sweet, it will not compare to taste of victory which I will claim, and which I will continually remind my children of for the following (12) months.

Also, to make the record complete, I had posted a video of my Mater-Master to YouTube several weeks ago.  I will also include it in this first posting to make it part of the official record.  It can be viewed below. I must also mention, I wish I had Mike narrating mine - he did a great job on his video narration.

More to follow - Soon I will highlight the second part of my two-part tomato growing system.  The first part being the Mater-Master.  Stay tuned for more.
